Dr Mark Volpicelli
Mark Volpicelli, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in correcting vision problems using both surgical and laser techniques. He has extensive experience and has performed over 18,000 LASIK and cataract procedures since entering practice in Mountain View in 1990. Dr. Volpicelli offers the latest in refractive techniques and he customizes each procedure to fit his patient’s individual and personal needs. His goal and mission are to ensure that he offers the safest and most advanced technology available today in a professional and friendly environment. Due to his depth of experience, numerous physicians, surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals throughout the Bay Area have specifically sought him out for their own eye surgery needs.
Expert in LASIK-Cataract-Corneal Transplants: Dr. Volpicelli can correct vision problems relating to nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. He has dozens of years of experience performing Cataract surgery, LASIK, LASEK, PRK, Epi-LASIK, and Intraocular Contact lenses-ICL’s. Dr. Volpicelli utilizes the latest technology to perform each procedure, including the VISX laser to perform CustomVue LASIK and the Intralase for complete blade-free LASIK. He is also on the leading edge in cataract surgery using presbyopic-correcting intraocular lenses, including the Crystalens, Restor and Tecnis multifocal lenses. He is also involved with the newest techniques in corneal transplantation surgery, and he was one of the first surgeons in the Bay Area to offer DSEK eye surgery to his corneal transplant patients.
Honors-Publications-Stanford Clinical Faculty-Over 20 Years of Experience: Dr. Volpicelli is well noted for his publications and lectures, and the numerous honors that he has been awarded over the years. Because of his unique combination of cornea, cataract and refractive surgical expertise balanced with his scholarship his patients are in the best of hands.
Dr. Volpicelli has published numerous articles, and he is often quoted in a number of top ophthalmology publications, including Ocular Surgery News and Ophthalmology Times. He has received multiple honors, including “Top Doctors in Silicon Valley,” “America’s Top Ophthalmologists,” “Outstanding Physician in the Bay Area,” and the “Super Service Award from Angie’s List”. Dr. Volpicelli has been active in several FDA clinical trials. He was selected as a principal investigator by VISX for use of their excimer laser to treat farsightedness and astigmatism. He was also a clinical investigator for the initial Epi-LASIK clinical trials and a principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health Herpetic Eye Disease Studies. Dr. Volpicelli regularly holds courses and is a lead speaker at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s national meetings, and he has been teaching cataract and corneal surgery to the ophthalmology residents at Stanford as an Adjunct Clinical Professor for over 20 years.
Education-Academics-Corneal Fellowship Trained: Dr. Volpicelli graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA. He completed his medical degree at the University of California in San Diego and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas. He went on to complete advanced fellowship training in Cornea and External Eye Disease at the prestigious Francis I. Proctor Foundation at UCSF.
Dr. Volpicelli lives in Los Altos with his wife, and he has two daughters in college. He enjoys keeping physically fit and he regularly participates in 10K runs and other sporting events throughout the Bay Area.
