Dr. Mark Volpicelli
Mark Volpicelli, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in correcting nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism using both surgical and laser techniques. He has extensive experience in not only LASIK but also LASEK, PRK, EpiLASIK, ICL’s and cataract surgery. He has performed over 12,500 surgical procedures since entering private practice in Mountain View in 1990. Dr. Volpicelli offers the latest in refractive technology including CustomVue LASIK using the Intralase as well as the latest techniques in cataract surgery using presbyopic-correcting intraocular lenses.
Dr. Volpicelli is on the leading edge in both corneal and refractive surgery and he has published numerous articles and given several courses at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery’s national meetings. Dr. Volpicelli is often quoted in a number of the top ophthalmology publications, including Ocular Surgery News and Ophthalmology Times. He has been active in several clinical trials and has been teaching cataract and corneal surgery to the ophthalmology residents in training at Stanford University as an Adjunct Clinical Professor for over 17 years. Dr. Volpicelli is also involved with the newest techniques in corneal transplantation surgery and was one of the first surgeons in the Bay Area to offer DSEK surgery to his corneal transplant patients. His goal is to ensure that he offers the safest and most current technology available today in a professional and friendly environment. His patients benefit from his unique combination of surgical expertise balanced with his scholarship and personalized hands-on care.
Dr. Volpicelli has received multiple honors including "Top Doctors in Silicon Valley," "America's Top Ophthalmologists," and "Outstanding Physician in the Bay Area." He was selected as a principal investigator by VISX for their FDA clinical trials. Dr. Volpicelli graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA. He completed his medical degree at the University of California in San Diego and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas. He then went on and completed a fellowship in Cornea and External Eye Disease at the prestigious Francis I. Proctor Foundation at UCSF. Numerous physicians, surgeons, nurses and other healthcare professionals throughout the Bay Area have specifically sought out Dr. Volpicelli for their own refractive surgery. His depth of experience and trustworthiness allows him to assist his patients in choosing the appropriate procedure suited for their individual needs and he is dedicated to making sure that each patient feels comfortable with every aspect of their care. Dr. Volpicelli takes the time to answer all questions and personally calls his own patient’s the night of their LASIK procedure to make sure they don't have any lingering questions or concerns about their recovery.
Dr. Volpicelli lives in Los Altos with his wife and two teenage daughters. He enjoys keeping physically fit and regularly participates in 10 K runs throughout the Bay Area.
